Our Physiotherapist’s Qualifications Explained

Bachelor of Physiotherapy

A qualified Physiotherapist, following a 4 year undergraduate degree, with good general qualifications but has not yet undertaken any post graduate study.

Masters/Doctor of Physiotherapy

Has completed a 3 to 4 year undergraduate degree in science followed by a 3 year post-graduate Masters of Physiotherapy to become Qualified Physiotherapists. They have not yet specialised in a certain field of physiotherapy.

APA Musculoskeletal/Manipulative Physiotherapist

An APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association) Musculoskeletal Titled Physiotherapist is a highly qualified physiotherapy professional with expert physiotherapy knowledge and skills in the prevention, diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment of back, neck and peripheral joint injuries. They have completed a Bachelor or Masters of Physiotherapy then a year full-time Masters of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. They  have a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, pathology, physiology, assessment and current evidence based practice in treating spinal and peripheral joint injuries. Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists are expert at assessing the structures, contributing factors and mechanics causing your pain.

APA Sports Physiotherapist

An APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association) Sports Titled Physiotherapist is a highly qualified physiotherapy professional with expert physiotherapy knowledge and skills in the prevention, diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment of sports injuries. An APA Sports Physiotherapist has completed a 4 year undergraduate degree and 2 years post graduate Masters of Sports Physiotherapy. They have a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, crisis management, assessment and physiotherapy treatment of joint and muscle conditions. In addition, an APA Sports Physiotherapist has at least 5 years experience working in the Sports Specialty and has completed the Level 3 Sports Physiotherapy Course at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

Specialist Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist

A Specialist Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist who has achieved advanced Sports & Exercise Physiotherapy specialised training and successfully completed clinical and oral examinations to be admitted as a fellow to the Australia College of Physiotherapists. Sports & Exercise Physiotherapy Specialisation is awarded in a specific area. Michael Vadiveloo has been awarded Sports & Exercise Physiotherapy Specialist status specialising in the knee.

There are only 9 Specialist Sports & Exercise Physiotherapists in Victoria.

A Specialist Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist has to fulfil the requirements of The Australian College of Physiotherapy. The Specialist Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist is skilled at assessing difficult and complex Physiotherapy problems, particularly those that have not responded to previous treatment.
